What can I do to make sex with a condom work?

I have had troubles with keeping excited while putting on/using a condom. My gf is on birth control, and we recently had sex without a condom, I pulled out of course to be safe, but it went very well. When I have used a condom in the past, I just lose that excitement. Any suggestions on what I can do?
